Into the Hive: Learning About Freedom and Juneteenth

In honor of Juneteenth, Bright Bees Kids is celebrating the power of freedom, resilience, and storytelling through our Young Authors Writing Contest. Students in grades K–8 are invited to write about a person they admire who demonstrates pride, courage, love, kindness, or perseverance in their everyday life. Using grade-level vocabulary words, young writers will have the opportunity to share meaningful stories while strengthening their reading and writing skills.

Winners from our Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced divisions will receive a limited-edition Bright Bees Kids Young Author T-Shirt and a $10 Chick-fil-A gift card. Contest entries will be accepted through July 31, with winners announced on August 1. We can’t wait to celebrate the voices, creativity, and imagination of the next generation of storytellers.

Into the Hive: A Summer of Stories, Sunlight, and Growing Minds

Summer in the Hive feels a little different. The days are slower, the pressure is lighter, and there’s finally room for stories to settle in. This is the season where reading doesn’t feel like a task. It feels like discovery.

In this summer guide, we’re sharing thoughtful book picks for Kindergarten through 5th grade, a simple vocabulary list to build strong language skills, and free resources like Libby to keep reading accessible for every family. You’ll also find a few powerful, often-challenged titles that open the door to real conversations and deeper understanding.

Whether your child is just learning to read or growing into chapter books, this is your invitation to slow down, stay curious, and grow together through stories.
